WHAT IS A COMMUNITY GROUP?
MAP Community Groups are the heart of MAP. A MAP Community Group consists of compassionate and motivated citizens who work together to address slavery in their community; they are led and organized by local volunteers. Community Groups meet regularly (usually monthly or quarterly). They conduct awareness activities and engage in service projects in the local community. They provide opportunities for community involvement by developing a presence in the local community focused on addressing slavery and injustice. Through Community Groups we seek to build a collaborative network that help people use their gifts, talents, and resources to more effectively address human trafficking and its root causes.
WHY A COMMUNITY GROUP?
We recognize that we can do more together than we can as individuals or disconnected groups. Our vision is that Community Groups would spring up across Michigan, working in coordination, maximizing resources, innovating ideas, and serving communities, to more effectively combat human trafficking. Since 2012, the number of operating MAP Community Groups has increased from two to fifteen. Existing groups are displayed on the google map above and more are in-process or in transition of leadership. This network of Community Groups is intended to promote collaboration and synergy so that Michigan can more effectively address slavery.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Community Group leaders coordinate with MAP staff to stay connected to the progress and activities underway within the anti-human trafficking movement. MAP provides access to resources, assists in developing creative and effect approaches for community engagement, and helps foster collaboration, synergy, and effectiveness by coordinating common initiatives across multiple Community Groups.
