SUMMARY:"The Long Night" Film Preview
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin MAP and like-minded organizations as we preview “The Long Night” as part of the Greater Farmington Film Festival.\nThe event will feature an interview with the director of  “The Long Night” Tim Matusi and a panel discussion on human trafficking. \nTHE LONG NIGHT (documentary\, 72 mins.)\, directed by Tim Matsui \n March 5\, 2015 at 7:30 PM\, Smith Theatre at Oakland Community College \n The film’s director\, Tim Matsui\, will be present and participate in an audience Q&A following the film. \n Presentation of The Long Night is made possible in part by the support of State Representative Christine Greig and Bob Greig \n The Long Night is a feature documentary film produced in partnership with MediaStorm. It gives voice and meaning to the crisis of minors who are forced and coerced into the American sex trade. The film weaves together the stories of seven people whose lives have been forever changed by this issue. \nThe Long Night is not themed to advocate a solution. Instead\, it submerges the viewer in the experience of what it has been like for Natalie and Lisa to survive in the life; for Tom and Nacole to watch their daughter slip out of their hands; for Andy and his fellow police officers\, Brian and Joel\, to try and create a more just system. \nThe Long Night is testimony to the lives of those who have lived this crisis. \n\n“The Long Night is an important look into the underbelly of the Northwest region’s sex trade. Anyone who cares about kids should view it.”- Thanh Tan\, Seattle Times \n  \n“The Long Night is a gripping and honest account of addiction\, sex work\, and the lives of a survivor and her family. Viewers also get to know the police who are trying to change the system\, and a young woman who can’t break free of the life…. You need to see this film about sex work and addiction.”- David Ryder\, Huffington Post \n  \n

SUMMARY:Awareness Movie -Detroit
DESCRIPTION:Join MAP and Rebell Nell at the 4731 Building on Grand River in Detroit as we learn dangers of trafficking.  Meet other local organizations and service providers that are working to address human trafficking in our communities. \nWe will be showing the documentary “Chosen” \nThis film is appropriate for ages 13 years and up. “Chosen\,” is a 20-minute film\, tells the shocking true story of two “all-American” teenage girls deceived into trafficking. Eighteen-year-old Brianna was an honor-roll student and cheerleader and worked at a local café. Thirteen-year-old Lacy was an active member of her youth group\, and a volunteer in her community.\nBoth were manipulated. Both were exploited. Both were chosen. \nEach year in the United States\, at least 100\,000 children are exploited in the commercial sex industry. Because sex trafficking is an issue rarely discussed at home\, in school\, or in church\, parents and children are unaware of the dangers that face America’s youth. The Michigan Abolitionist Project is reaching out with the truth with this Shared Hope International film\, to equip and protect kids from being “chosen”. \n\nSnacks will be provided. \nIts in the 4731 Building on Grand River in Detroit. \nCollaboration of Michigan Abolitionist Project  and RebelNell. \nwww.map-mi.org\nwww.rebelnell.com
