SUMMARY:Orion Twp.: Break the Chain Public Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lake Orion/Oxford Community Group at Lake Orion High School on Monday\, October 15th at 6:30pm\, as they screen “Break the Chain\,” an award-winning feature-length documentary film that illustrates the hidden perils of Human Trafficking in Michigan.\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.\n\nA Question and Answer session with the 4 local experts that are featured in the film will follow the screening presentation. They are:\n\n\nJane White – Founder of MI Human Trafficking Task Force\nEdee Franklin – Founder of Sanctum House – Rehabilitation facility for HT survivors\nLt. Wendy Reyes – Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept.\nDebbie Monroe – HT Survivor and Counselor\n\n\n\nAbout the Film:\n“Break the Chain”  is an award-winning feature-length documentary film that addresses the often “hidden-in-plain-sight” issue of Human Trafficking within Michigan communities and the United States.  The film chronicles two survivors of Human Trafficking – providing a detailed look at how trafficking goes unnoticed within our backyards.  Kwami\, a child survivor of Labor Trafficking\, was enslaved for nearly five years with three other children in Ypsilanti\, Michigan before anyone noticed.  Debbie\, a survivor of Sex Trafficking\, takes us through her experience of being sold for sex around the Detroit-Area between the ages of 13 and 18.\n\nAccompanying the stories of these survivors are nearly 20 interviews with researchers\, Senators\, non-profit organizations\, legal service agencies\, law enforcement officers and several artists actively working to raise awareness for this global issue. The film teaches us that what we see in the media about human trafficking is one small sensationalized form – that it occurs anywhere and everywhere within our world.  More importantly\, viewers will learn how we are all connected to this extremely profitable business and that we have the power to choose what we support\, and ultimately\, how we break the chain.

SUMMARY:Southfield: Freedom Coalition
DESCRIPTION:The MAP Freedom Coalition and the JATT Community Partner gathering are merging to form one group.  The purpose is to unite and work together so we are more effective in addressing human trafficking in our community and better equipped to help victims and survivors. \nThe new Freedom Coalition plans to meet every other month for the sharing of best practices\, case studies. education and training.  We will also invite participants to work on initiatives as they wish. \nThe August 28th Freedom Coalition welcomes Erin McLaughlin who will present a basic overview of the newly passed policy: The Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act of 2017 (SESTA) and its House equivalent\, the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA or H.R.1865). These bills were designed to prevent websites (sucy as Backpage or Craigslist) from facilitating sex trafficking.  Erin will provide an overview and lead a discussion as we explore the good it accomplishes and the affect on the at-risk population. We hope you will join us and weigh in on this discussion. \nThe meeting will also focus on discussing coalition guidelines and collaboration goals for 2018 & 2019. MAP strongly encourages serious Freedom Coalition members to attend this important meeting!\n \nThere is NO COST to attend; a light meal will be provided at 5:30 pm and we will end promptly at 7:30 pm. \nWe do ask attendees to register so we have an accurate food count. \nRegister HERE \n

She is also working on adapting and piloting a primary prevention sexual violence intervention to the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. Her global health field work has included Ethiopia\, Ghana\, Liberia\, and Zambia. \nDr Munro-Kramer’s keynote will address how trauma impacts the brain and body.
