SUMMARY:Detroit Community Group
DESCRIPTION:The Detroit Community Group will have its next meeting on Saturday\, January 27th\, 2018  from 2-4:30 pm at \nThe Detroit Public Library – Main Branch| 5201 Woodward Ave. | Detroit | 48202. Thy will meet in the Explorers room located on A-level. \nIn January\, the Detroit Community Group will be viewing “Not My Life” \n A STORY ABOUT THE WAY THE WORLD IS…\n\n\nFilmed on five continents\, in a dozen countries\, Not My Life takes viewers into a world where millions of children are exploited\, every day\, through an astonishing array of practices including forced labor\, domestic servitude\, begging\, sex tourism\, sexual violence\, and child soldiering.\n\n“Human traffickers are earning billions of dollars on the backs and in the beds of our children\,” says the film’s director\, Academy Award nominee\, Robert Bilheimer\, “and yet no one knows this is happening. We have a huge responsibility\, right now\, to learn the truth and act on it.”\n\nChallenging though it may be\, Not My Life’s message is ultimately one of hope. Victims of slavery can be set free and go on to live happy and productive lives. Those who advocate for slavery victims are growing in numbers\, and are increasingly effective. At this crossroads for the defining human rights issue of our time\, Not My Life tells us\, as the late Jonathan Mann said\, “We can no longer flee\, no longer hide\, no longer separate ourselves.”\n\n\nThe Detroit Community Group will meet monthly. \nTo receive more information about our Detroit Community Group\, please sign up to receive newsletters and reminders. SUMMARY:4Freedom - MAP's Annual Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:4Freedom is MAP’s annual fundraiser\, a gathering of hundreds of supporters\, with a goal this year to raise $60\,000 in support of this cause. The problem of human trafficking is massive. Over 20 million people are trapped in various forms of slavery throughout the world today\, including our country and right here in local Michigan communities.  Since MAP’s inception in 2012\, our prevention and education efforts have reverberated across Michigan in more ways than we could possibly imagine. We have seen significant results when people use what they have\, their resources and talents\, and unite with others to make an impact. Businesses\, agencies\, organizations\, and individuals across Michigan are working together with MAP to educate\, connect\, inspire\, and activate communities. When you support our efforts – you are helping MAP make a greater impact to prevent and end modern-day slavery. \nJoin us this day… 4Freedom…\n\nVolunteer…\n\nMen and women are invited to become a table host.  Learn more…\nHelp us enlist sponsors and gifts and donations for our silent auction.  Learn more…\n\nBecome a Sponsor…\n\nJoin other businesses and organizations! Be a Champion\, Defender\, Advocate\, Promoter\, or Supporter Sponsor\nDownload the Sponsorship Form:  Sponsor Form\n\nDonate to 4Freedom\n\n4Freedom Highlights…\nSpecial Guest – Nicole Braddock Bromley\nNICOLE is the Founder and Director of OneVOICE Enterprises\, an organization that is bringing healing change into the lives of victims of sexual abuse. Her message has been heard by thousands of students on college campuses\, in high schools\, middle schools\, and churches around the country. Her work has gained media attention\, appearing in magazines\, newspapers\, television\, and on radio broadcasts. She is author of Hush and Breathe. Learn more… \nOur Emcee – Eli Zaret\nELI is an American sports broadcaster and journalist based in Detroit\, Michigan. He is widely known for being involved in covering the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association\, for whom he served as a sideline reporter and about whom he kept a blog titled “Blue Collar Blueprint”. The blog was based on a book he wrote in 2004 about the Pistons’ rise to their third NBA championship. His career began in 1974 at WABX-FM in Detroit\, where he was regarded as the “first FM sportscaster” in Detroit. Eli became the lead sports anchor for NBC affiliate WDIV-TV in the 1980s and briefly served a similar role at WABC-TV in New York\, where he shared the weeknight sports reporting duties with Corey McPherrin. \nEnd the Demand – Program Update and Future Plans and Efforts\nEnd the Demand is a MAP initiative to combat human trafficking by reducing the demand that fuels it. Addressing pornography\, intercepting online sex buying\, educating prostitution offenders\, promoting ethical shopping practices are some of the major efforts we and our partners are taking on to put an end to human trafficking and exploitation. Learn more about who is fueling the demand for exploitation and what can be done about it.
