SUMMARY:St. Joseph - SOAP Up Hotel Outreach
DESCRIPTION:SOAP Up SW-Michigan\nHotel Outreach Event\nHosted by MAP’s St. Joe Community Group!\nDate and time\nSaturday\, June 3rd\, 2023\n5:00 – 8:00 pm\n\nLocation\nFirst Church – Saint Joseph Campus\n2627 Niles Avenue\, Saint Joseph\, MI\n\n\nDid you know human trafficking is the second leading criminal industry in the United States? The average age of entry into trafficking in the U.S. is only 13 years of age and many survivors of trafficking are not aware of how to get help. Join us to educate hotels on how to spot signs of human trafficking and hand out bars of soap with the national human trafficking hotline number along with missing children posters. 80% of all trafficking occurs at hotels/motels and many victims will see a bar of soap in their room which may be a lifeline to freedom. \nPlease join us to learn about the signs of human trafficking in our community. We will label hotel bar soaps to deliver to select area hotels and deliver critical information and missing children’s posters to hotel staff. \nMust be trained (provided on-site) and at least 16 years of age to attend the outreach with parental permission.

SUMMARY:Holland Community Group (*RESCHEDULED)
DESCRIPTION:Holland Community Group\nMAP’s Holland Community Group is proud to be part of the Ottawa County Human Trafficking Task Force and the larger movement to end human trafficking in Michigan. We hope you will join us and become part of this amazing community!\n\nAre you passionate about fighting human trafficking in your area? Do you want to join a group of caring and dedicated volunteers who are making a difference? If you live or work in Allegan\, Ottawa\, Muskegon\, or Kent County\, we invite you to join our Holland Community Group! We are a friendly and supportive group of people who learn and work together to raise awareness and prevent human trafficking in our community. No previous experience or knowledge is required to join. We have regular meetings throughout the year where we offer training and plan outreach events. \nWe are currently making plans for our upcoming Holland Freedom Marketplace on Saturday\, August 19th! If you love to shop\, this is a great opportunity to support fair trade businesses and local artisans while learning about labor trafficking and how to shop ethically (+lots of fun kids’ activities!). We are accepting vendor applications ($35) and also looking for volunteers who may be available to help. If you would be interested\, we would love to hear from you! \nCOMMUNITY GROUP MEETINGS:\nStarting in April\, our Holland Community Group meetings will be combined with the Ottawa County Human Trafficking Task Force meetings\, as our CG Leader\, Ashleigh O’Donnell\, is the new co-chair of the task force! These meetings are open to the public and are held on a quarterly basis. The next one will be on Wed\, July 26th\, at 12:00 pm (virtual). If you would be interested in joining us\, please send us an email to receive the Zoom link. \n\nIf you would like to stay connected with MAP’s Holland Community Group\, consider joining our Facebook Group or sign-up for our email list (“Community Group: Holland”) to have invites to future meetings and events sent straight to your inbox. For further questions\, please contact the Holland CG Leader directly at holland@map-mi.org \n\n\n\nMAP Community Groups consist of compassionate and motivated citizens who volunteer together to address human trafficking in their community. Community Groups meet regularly for ongoing training\, conducting awareness activities\, and engaging in service projects within the local community. Through Community Groups we seek to build a collaborative network that helps people use their gifts\, talents\, and resources to address human trafficking and its root causes more effectively.

SUMMARY:SOAP Up - Detroit Auto Show
DESCRIPTION:SOAP Up – Detroit Auto Show  |  Hotel Outreach Event\nSaturday\, August 27th\, 2022  |  Northridge Church\, Plymouth\nEvent Details\nDid you know that nearly one million people will flood into the metro-Detroit area during the Detroit Auto Show this year? If so\, then you’ll likely know large events like this often lead to an increased demand for commercial sex in the area as well… This is why we need your help!  Join us as we educate local hotel staff about human trafficking and equip them with resources to help identify and report suspected cases of sex trafficking during the week of the Detroit Auto Show (Sep 14-25).\nOn the day of outreach (Aug 27)\, volunteers will help label bars of soap and makeup wipes with the national hotline# and then go out in teams to deliver the materials to over 250 hotels/motels throughout the Metro-Detroit area (labeled soaps and makeup wipes will be distributed to hotel rooms during the week of the Auto Show by hotel staff). While delivering soaps/makeup wipes to assigned hotels\, volunteers will also educate front desk staff on the signs of human trafficking and share local “missing teen posters” that will be used by staff to identify any missing youth/potential victims during the Detroit Auto Show as well.\nNo previous experience necessary – training* (and breakfast) will be provided to volunteers on site! Gather a group of friends\, family members\, or co-workers and register to join us… We need LOTS of participants* (men and women) to help make this outreach event a success!!\n*Training is appropriate for middle school-aged and older. Participants must be 16+ to go to hotels with an adult. \nCLICK HERE TO VIEW THE EVENT FLYER\n Unable to attend but still want to help?  Click the button to make a general donation – or donate a case of soap\, face wipes\, or other outreach supplies needed 😀 Your support is greatly appreciated!\nAgenda\nSaturday\, August 27th\, 2022 (Northridge Church)\n9:30 am  |  Registration & Breakfast\n10 am – 11 am  |  Label soaps & wipes\, make the folders for hotels\n11 am – 12 pm  |  Volunteer Training (basic HT 101\, instructions for visiting hotels\, etc.)\n12:00 pm  |  Drive to hotels to deliver information\, supplies\, and posters (1-2 hours)\nCOVID Restrictions\nWe will be keeping an eye out for what local requirements are for COVID restrictions.
