SUMMARY:Berkley Community Church Women's Event
DESCRIPTION:The Berkley Community Church women\, The Jesus Girls\, will be hosting a human trafficking awareness event that will feature the film “Chosen”. “Chosen” tells the story of two “all-American” teenage girls deceived into trafficking. Both were chosen. \nBerkley Community Church women and friends (21 and older please) are invited to attend this event in the BCC “Garage” to learn what they can do to protect our youth and to prevent human trafficking. Kathy Maitland\, Director of the Michigan Abolitionist Project will join us to share more about human trafficking and the work of the Michigan Abolitionist Project http://www.michiganabolitionistproject.org/. \nFair trade coffee and tea will be provided. Bring a snack to share if you would like. Please feel free to invite others or bring a friend!  For map and more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/232085943827323/

SUMMARY:The Abolitionists: Lansing Showing
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lansing Community Group at this showing of The Abolitionists. \n\n\nOn December 10th\, 2013 Special Agent Tim Ballard turned in his Homeland Security badge and resigned from his employment with the United States government. He had spent over a decade rescuing children from child sex tourism both domestically and overseas. Though his job was difficult\, he was proud that his country was one of very few in the world who was actually doing anything about this problem. However\, mired in red tape and bureaucracy\, Tim left to begin saving the children that he saw falling out of the purview of the US government. These children constitute over 90% of the children lost to child sex slavery and he could do nothing to help them while in the employment of the US government. \n\n\n\n\nThis is a story about the lost children and the recue team’s exploits as they investigate and liberate enslaved children from around the world.

SUMMARY:The Abolitionists: Walled Lake Showing
DESCRIPTION:On December 10th\, 2013 Special Agent Tim Ballard turned in his Homeland Security badge and resigned from his employment with the United States government.

SUMMARY:Regional Community Advocate Training
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Spring Regional Community Advocate Training and Networking event. The first part of this event is shining a light on the Refugee Crisis. Around 10\,000 refugees are on course to be welcomed into Michigan. Many of them have been exploited or are at a high risk for exploitation. The first half of the event will feature Ken Fouty of Lutheran Social Services (LSSM). Ken will share with us the plight of a refugee and how we can come along side them and help in their transition to safety. \nThe second half of our event will be geared toward our Community Group leaders and will focus on training\, upcoming events and MAP updates. \nLunch is included. \n Some Background…Nearly 4 million Syrians have become refugees\, according to the United Nations\, and 5.5 million more have been displaced. Lutheran Social Services of Michigan\, based in Troy\, has been processing most of the refugees arriving in metro Detroit. The agency has helped resettle 62 Syrian refugees so far this year and expect to resettle nearly 1200 in 2016. Refugees headed to Michigan tend to be resettled primarily in Wayne\, Oakland and Macomb counties. The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants and Catholic Charities are also handling some refugees. Most of the Syrian refugees are from Jordan and are glad to be in the U.S. LSSM relies heavily on its partnerships with local organizations and religious congregations to fulfill new refugees’ needs for housing and transportation. Through partnerships\, LSSM also works with employers to arrange job opportunities. (read news) \n“The children asked us to escape\,” a refugee dad says\, who fled Iraq in 2007. “They [my children] said\, ‘We can’t sleep. We’re scared.’ “ \n“We feel safe. We feel we are human again.” – Syrian Refugee \nPlease Register Here (Cost $10\, includes lunch)
