Survivor to Thriver
October 2022 – The Oakland County Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF), along with the Michigan Abolitionist Project (MAP), are launching a unique pilot project for Oakland County. The pilot is the Survivor to Thriver Project. (Read news article)
This purpose of the Survivor to Thriver pilot is to help provide additional resources to qualifying service providers who serve survivors of human trafficking.
The project invites trafficking survivors, through their agencies, to request funding for items or experiences for themselves (and their children) to help them move beyond filling physiological and safety needs but also address the psychological needs of belonging, love, esteem and self-actualization (Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, 1943). Requests for enrichment activities such as (but not necessarily limited to) personal wellness classes, personal care activities, life or work coach sessions, family entertainment (zoo, movies, plays), or school/class supplies. The OCHTTF along with MAP are partnering to conduct this 12-month pilot project.
For the pilot, a select number of agencies in Oakland County have been invited to participate.
